Freight Agent
Role Overview
As a Freight Agent at DHL Global Forwarding, you will ensure the smooth and efficient movement of goods, acting as the pivotal link between customers, suppliers, and internal logistics teams. Core responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and administrating freight collections, deliveries, and on-road transport operations to meet company standards.
- Coordinating export linehaul planning, maintaining accurate records within systems, and ensuring compliance with internal procedures.
- Resolving customer service issues and coordinating consignment tracking internally and with external partners.
- Processing paperwork, coordination, and adherence to UK/Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Oversee freight collections and deliveries daily, guaranteeing adherence to quality standards.
- Coordinate on-road transport operations and liaise closely with drivers to improve efficiency.
- Key responsibility: To maintain protocol-driven administrative tasks via TMS (Transport Management System).
Customer & Supplier Interaction
- Daily customer engagement – Monitor shipments, track issues, and resolve inquiries promptly.
- Train customers on DHL systems and processes to improve service delivery.
Data & Compliance Management
- Maintain accurate consignment data within internal systems (including in-house TMS).
- Ensure compliance with DHL anti-corruption policies, case surveys, and industry regulations.
- Calculate and prepare required documentation for suppliers.
Strategic & Team Contributions
- Linehaul planning – Develop efficient routes and schedules for export shipments.
- Select third-party logistics providers to optimise service quality at competitive rates.
- Actively participate in monthly team briefings and weekly performance discussions.
- Collaborate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Value Stream Mapping).
Required Skills, Experience & Knowledge
Essential
✅ Strong organisational skills – High ability to multitask and prioritise workloads. ✅ Numeracy and literacy proficiency – Ability to handle numerical data and ensure accuracy. ✅ Proficiency in MS Office Packages (Word, Excel, Outlook). ✅ Automated warehouse interaction – Basic familiarity with warehouse operations. ✅ Passion for continuous development – Willingness to upskill and contribute improvements.
Desirable
🔹 High-level management experience in logistics (preferably +1 year dedicated inside logistics office). 🔹 Understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations – Useful for Any Operator Role. 🔹 Knowledge of UK/European road freight geography – Handles logistics and delivery routes effectively. 🔹 Understanding of Health & Safety standards – For hazardous or specialised transport.

Hours & Shift Pattern
- 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday.
