The French Patent Language Lead is a critical position that requires a strong background in translation and interpretation, with a focus on patent/legal documents. This professional is responsible for translating, postediting or reviewing complex patent/legal materials from English into French, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy of the deliverables to client. This role works closely with Quality, Program Squads, Talent, vendors and other stakeholders to provide precise language support for patent-related matters. This professional ensures that the expected level of translation quality is maintained, and the product delivered to the client should always meet its intended purpose, while closely monitoring that translation expenses remain within budget. The French Patent Language Lead understands legal requirements and engages the production team in the fulfillment of these requirements, crafting client solutions based on the Welocalize Four Pillars of Customer Service, Quality, Innovation and Global Teamwork. \n

Main Duties Perform English into French or French into English patent review tasks as required and monitor resources’ performance. Work with Quality and Squads to plan and perform LQAs, and drive the arbitration process. Maintain and update linguistic assets, such as French glossary and translation memories. Monitor translation spend closely and ensure that it stays within budget. Support Quality team in reviewing IRB forms and in conducting RCAs for legal translation and be responsible for client inquiries. Provide support to onboard new French legal suppliers when applicable. Respond to any queries from French resources related to legal production. Engage in business review meetings with French resources as well as take the lead on linguistic issues. Assist in creating and updating style guides for English into French or French into English. Support the assessment team regarding new French legal resources across all content specialties. Recommend French legal resources to Squads, based on data concerning quality, OTD, language strategy, capacity needs, content specialty, or client specific requirements. Conduct monthly capacity planning for French legal resources making sure that the adequate resources are in place to support production.

Requirements 3+ years of linguistic experience on English into French and French into English patent translation. Minimum of BA/BS degree or equivalent experience A good understanding of Machine Translation (MT) Native-Level in French and fluent in English. Knowledge of European Patent Convention law. Familiarity with diverse CAT tools and QA tools. Knowledge of the language services industry and a keen interest in its technology, process, competitive landscape, and emerging trends. A technical background is a plus, such as backgrounds in electricity and chemistry.
