Senior Process Specialist – Start-Up (Cuppers/Bodymakers/Trimmers)
Mark your career with Ball, a global leader in sustainable aluminium packaging. Our achievements inspire innovation, and by doing so, we empower organisations to create a better world.
As a recipient of Newsweek’s 2023 Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplace award, Ball is proud to be a sustainable product leader, with over 16,000 global team members shaping the future of recyclable aluminium through cans, cups, and aerosol bottles.
Primary Purpose
You will lead specialist process roles with a key focus on the critical success of new builds, new line start-ups, and line conversions within our cupper, bodymaker, and trimmer areas. As a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), your primary responsibilities include ensuring seamless ramp-up performance, KPI achievement, and operational excellence through efficiency, spoilage reduction, and regulatory compliance.
Your expertise will drive continuous process improvement, educate and mentor plant teams, and embed high standards in food safety and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical Leadership
- Champion a "safety-first" culture, actively encouraging safe practices, equipment compliance, and strong coaching of junior team members.
- Oversee complete equipment installation, setup, commissioning, and early operational phases, ensuring OEM specifications and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets are met.
- Serve as the onsite expert for process areas, running defect investigations, root-cause analyses, and troubleshooting mechanical, chemical, and production inefficiencies.
- Lead structured training programmes—primarily through on-the-job training, supplemented by classroom instruction (80%/20% ratio)—to equip operators and mechanics with skills in line operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality standards.
- Analyse production issues in real time, acting as a first-line troubleshooter while implementing structured problem-solving techniques to resolve recurring issues.
** 연속성과 안정성 (Continuity and Stablization)**
- Enable the smooth transition from start-up to steady-state operations, ensuring alignment with production targets and process maturity.
- Document and share lessons learned, fostering best practices for future projects and global line performance enhancement.
- Conduct food safety and sanitation assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Coordinate parts, tooling, and logistics, prioritising resource readiness and preventative maintenance planning.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
