About This Role
As a Process Specialist, your role will focus on New Build, New Line, and Line Conversion start-ups for critical areas including cupper, bodymaker, and trimmer. You will own a defined process area, ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and quality while adhering to strict performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Champion a "safety-first" culture by modelling safe work practices, ensuring compliance, and mentoring team members to uphold these standards.
Equipment Launch & Performance
- Lead start-up and ramp-up of new lines, guarantéente mechanical, chemical, and process stability during installation, commissioning, and early production.
- Act as the primary process Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned areas, aligning operations with design specifications and best practices.
Training & Skill Development
- Deliver technical training—80% on-the-job, 20% classroom-based—to build operator and mechanic skills in operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and quality.
Real-Time Support
- Provide immediate troubleshooting and problem resolution to stabilise production during start-up, solving complex (mechanical, chemical, or process) issues.
Root Cause Analysis & Improvement
- Participate in root cause investigations and implement structured problem-solving techniques to eliminate recurring production issues.

Compliance & Standards
- Validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials to ensure they reflect new equipment performance requirements.
- Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations during start-up activities.
Resource Management
- Assist with parts, tooling, and supply coordination, verifying readiness and addressing critical start-up needs early.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to transition operations from start-up to steady-state performance levels.
Continuous Improvement
- Document lessons learned and share best practices with future builds and internal teams.
Key Performance Targets
- Achieve efficiency and spoilage reduction targets aligned with approved start-up curves.
- Optimise line launches, size conversions, and equipment rebuilds using Lean methodologies.
- Uphold Ball Operative Excellence (BOE) standards (Level 3 competency focused on safety, quality, business operations, and maintenance).
Champion Team Performance
- Train and develop site personnel during recruitment and start-up phases, fostering sustainable operational expertise.
- Support emergency breakdowns to minimise downtime during critical start-ups.
- Actively engage with the Start-Up Team to deliver shared success.
Key Requirements & Competencies
Technical & Educational Qualifications
- Mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications
- Training/teaching certificate (Train the Trainer level minimum)
- In-depth knowledge of the aluminium can production process including expertise in at least one specific area (e.g., cupper, bodymaker, trimmer).
Problem-Solving & Transferable Skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical knowledge effectively to non-specialists.
- Strong hands-on skills in equipment setup, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation.
- Experience applying Lean principles and structured problem-solving techniques.

Industry-Specific Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in aluminium can manufacturing.
- Preference for candidates with line launch or rebuild project experience.
Soft Skill Requirements
- Adherence to safety protocols and dedication to continuous improvement.
- Ability to mentor less experienced team members and foster a collaborative culture.
- Sound English communication skills (essential for internal presentations and reporting).
- Computer literacy to interpret data and create progress reports.
Work Environment & Career Development
- Collaborates with on-site and off-site teams with a focus on hybrid/remote flexibility, depending on operational needs.
- Salary Range: €62,300 – €89,690 gross p.a. (determined by qualifications, experience, and market benchmarks).
