Job Description
Job Title: Front of House Manager
Location: Ashridge House, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, HP4 1NS
Reports to: General Manager
Shifts: 5 days out of 7, Monday – Sunday, Shifts between 7am and 10pm
The Opportunity
Ashridge House is a prestigious historic mansion nestled in the stunning Hertfordshire countryside. We are renowned for hosting a wide range of events, from weddings and corporate gatherings to special celebrations, in a breath-taking and timeless setting.
As the Front of House Manager, you will lead our Reception and Nights teams in providing impeccable customer service and ensuring smooth operations at Ashridge House. You will be responsible for managing the reception area, overseeing guest arrivals/departures, and co-ordinating event set-ups to ensure that every guest's visit is memorable and seamless.
What will you be doing?
Front Desk Management
- Manage and train reception staff to ensure they deliver outstanding service
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the reception desk, including check-in, check-out, and guest inquiries
- Maintain a welcoming and organised front desk area
Guest Relations
- Interact with guests courteously and professionally, addressing their needs and resolving any issues or concerns promptly
- Assist with special guest requests and ensure a personalised and memorable guest experience
Team Leadership
- Lead and motivate the Reception, Guest Service Assistants and Nights teams to achieve high levels of performance and guest satisfaction
- Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge
- Line manages all team members in 121s, appraisals and ongoing development

Administrative Tasks
- Manage reservations and room assignments, maintaining accurate records
- Prepare and distribute daily reports and guest information
- Create and issue rota’s for each team to ensure coverage of necessary business areas
Security And Compliance
- Ensure adherence to security procedures and guest confidentiality standards
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations
- Duty Manager training, ICO training will be done in house as part of this role
Who are you?
- Previous experience in a reception or front desk management role, preferably in a hospitality or events setting
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in using reservation and property management systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of event coordination and logistics
- Knowledge in Opera Cloud is desirable
