Front of House Volunteer Role (Weoley Castle Community Centre)

Who Are Midland Mencap?

Midland Mencap is a charity that works and campaigns for accessible and inclusive services, aiming to improve the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities and additional needs. Volunteering here offers a chance to make a positive impact, enjoy rewarding experiences, and help achieve their vision.

Purpose of the Role

Our Weoley Castle Community Centre is a busy hub offering services to:

  • Adults with learning disabilities
  • Carers
  • Professionals
  • The local community

We seek volunteers to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for visitors at the centre.

What Would I Be Doing?

  • Reception Support

    • Occupy the reception area, physically opening the front door
    • Welcome visitors and ensure they sign in upon arrival
    • Manage deliveries safely and notify the relevant staff
    • Answer the telephone during busy periods and take messages
    • Maintain an attractive, welcoming, and tidy reception
  • Accessibility Assistance

    • Help individuals with disabilities access information about upcoming events

  • General Tasks
    • During quiet periods, assist with tidying the building

What Do I Need?

To volunteer, you must:

  • Be able to work independently while staff are busy
  • Feel confident answering the door and permitting visitors while staying alert
  • Be approachable and friendly, building rapport with visitors
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be respectful of differences and willing to collaborate in a diverse team
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness
  • Have good time management and reliability
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Agree to completing an enhanced DBS check

When and Where Do You Need Me?

  • Centre Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Additionally, various yearly events are hosted at the centre
  • Suggested Commitment: Attend at least once a week if possible
