The ** Frontier R&D team** at Flutter UK&I operates at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and business strategy. As part of Flutter’s Disruptive R&D function, this dynamic group identifies and evaluates technology trends spanning 12–36 months, prototypes solutions with immature tools, builds industry partnerships, and delivers targeted insights to drive global innovation for betting, gaming, and entertainment.
As R&D Manager, your role is to empower a small, agile technologist team—turning conceptual ideas into high-impact prototypes that redefine Flutter’s trajectory. This position demands a blend of visionary leadership, hands-on technical skills, and a curiosity for tomorrow’s breakthroughs.

Leadership & Strategy
- Guide your team in developing high-quality prototypes, research outputs, and innovation demonstrations to influence Flutter’s long-term tech strategy
- Collaborate with the Head of Disruptive R&D to take early-stage concepts from ideation to the formal strategic project pipeline
- Prioritisation & resourcing—use foresight and roadmapping to spearhead the most disruptive opportunities
Technical Discovery & Scouting
- Conduct horizon scanning to pinpoint emerging technologies with potential to shape betting, gaming, and digital entertainment
- Develop rapid proof-of-concepts using bleeding-edge tools—for example, generative AI-driven development workflows
Relationship & Influence
- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with technology providers, research institutions, and startups to expand Flutter’s innovative ecosystem
- Craft executive-level presentations and demos that translate technical complexity for stakeholders across the business
Pipeline Management
- Oversee prototypes from ideation through user testing, ensuring a systematic approach to scale viable concepts
- Standardise best practices in agile, modular prototyping focused on AI-assisted R&D
Business Impact
- Advise on proof-of-concept validation and strategic adoption—directly influencing Flutter’s future funding of disruptive tech
