Job Overview

As a Fuel Research Engineer (Sustainable Aviation Fuels), you will join our Bristol team to support our work in the aerospace and sustainable energy sector. This role is focused on advancing the understanding of the safety characteristics of drop-in Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), particularly investigating the relationship between flammability limits (UEL/LEL) and flash point. You will contribute to a research-driven programme based on in-depth literature reviews and technical analysis, addressing gaps not covered in previous initiatives like CLEAN3 and JetSCREEN.

Experience Level

Early to Mid-level (2–6 years)

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed literature reviews on hydrocarbon fuels and flammability characteristics
  • Analyze relationships between flash point, Upper Explosive Limit (UEL), and Lower Explosive Limit (LEL)
  • Compare conventional kerosene with synthetic SAF compositions, including paraffinic fuels
  • Develop technical reports summarizing findings, trends, and predictive relationships
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts in fuel safety and combustion science

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
