Job Description

Role: Senior Full Stack Developer

Contract: 6 months

Day Rate: £550 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid (with occasional travel to Newcastle)

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer / Senior Software Engineer to join an Agile delivery team. In this role, you will provide hands-on Node.js development, technical leadership, and guidance to less experienced engineers. You will design, build, and maintain high-quality products that power essential services, ensuring they remain robust, resilient, stable, and scalable.

You will work closely with Delivery Managers, Business Analysts, Test Automation Engineers, and Technical Architects, actively participating in Agile ceremonies (refinement, estimation, planning, and reviews) to ensure continuous and effective delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on Development: Deliver high-quality, scalable code aligned with engineering strategy and software engineering best practices.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain responsibility for the operational stability, performance, and scalability of the services you build.
  • Best Practices: Place a strong emphasis on automated testing, CI/CD principles, and modern DevOps tooling.

Essential

  • Backend Development: Strong experience with Node.js (including frameworks such as Express).
  • Package Management: Proficiency with NPM.
  • Testing: Strong commitment to Test Driven Development (TDD) and common test frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Chai).
  • Databases: Experience with both Relational and NoSQL data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • CI/CD and DevOps: Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and Containers (Docker).

Desirable

  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Knowledge of Microservices and Event-Driven Architecture (e.g., Kafka, SNS/SQS, EventBridge).
  • Cloud platform experience, particularly AWS.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Node.js performance tuning and observability tooling (e.g., OpenTelemetry).
