Full Stack Engineer (React)
Job Description
Engineering is at the core of how we solve complex problems in health and social care. We are looking for a Mid-Level Full Stack Engineer to join our fully remote team and help build the future of our healthcare products. You will join an established, collaborative team and play a vital role in developing and scaling our applications, working closely with Product Managers and Product Designers across the organisation.
What makes this role distinctive is the mix of work. You will split your time between building and evolving our own products, like Symmetry, our integrated care planning tool, and delivering consultancy-style software projects for NHS customers. That means moving between long-term product ownership and shorter, focused client engagements, with some direct client contact along the way. We're a team that moves between challenges quickly, and we value people who find energy in that kind of variety but can hold a common thread between work streams.
Reporting to our Lead Applications Engineer, you will take ownership of features end-to-end, from technical discovery and implementation through to deployment and monitoring, with architectural direction and support from senior engineers. You will build and maintain full-stack features using React, Node.js, and TypeScript, backed by Express servers and PostgreSQL and hosted on Google Cloud. Your work will directly impact how clinicians, care providers, and healthcare organisations securely maintain, share and act on complex health data.

Responsibilities
We are looking for an individual with experience building, testing, and deploying digital products. You will be expected to carry out these responsibilities:
Development & Architecture
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable full-stack code using TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
- Design, implement, and optimise relational database schemas and queries using PostgreSQL.
- Develop and integrate secure RESTful APIs to connect our front-end interfaces with backend services and external healthcare systems.
- Deploy, manage, and monitor applications within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
Quality & Validation
- Write comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) to ensure the reliability of our products.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to maintain high technical standards.
- Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues in production environments, including participation in our on-call rota.
Collaboration & Product
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Designers to understand user needs, assess technical feasibility, and discuss implementation trade-offs.
- Use AI tools appropriately to support coding, debugging, and documentation, while applying critical thinking and engineering judgement to ensure secure, high-quality outcomes.
- Actively participate in agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
- Be an active team member, contributing to discussions and shaping the future of the development environment.
Desirable but Not Required
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g. healthcare, finance) where data security and compliance are critical.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (e.g. FHIR, HL7, NHS standards).
- Experience with specific Google Cloud services (e.g. Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Kubernetes Engine).

Location & Eligibility
This is a remote-first role, but you must be based in the UK and hold the right to work in the UK. Because of the health data we handle, we are unable to consider applicants outside the UK.

- Salary range (depending on experience): £40k–£60k, with the upper end reflecting near-senior experience.
