Senior Full Stack Engineer
6-month contract
Remote Working
Outside IR35
Market Rates (c£450 to £500 per day)
The Opportunity
Our client is supporting a major UK Government Agency on the delivery of a large-scale digital transformation programme and is seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer to join an established agile delivery team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of modern, cloud-native services within a complex public sector environment, contributing across the full software development lifecycle.
You'll play a key role in designing, developing and deploying scalable microservices and web applications, working across frontend, backend and DevOps disciplines using modern technologies and engineering best practices.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative software engineer with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering secure, high-quality digital services.
Skills and Experience
- Strong commercial experience developing applications using TypeScript, Node.js and Fastify.
- Excellent Java development experience using Spring Boot.
- Strong experience working with PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience deploying applications within AWS Cloud environments.
- Experience with AWS ECS and/or AWS EKS (Kubernetes).
- Proven experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Strong knowledge of GitLab and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience building and supporting cloud-native, microservices-based applications.
- Excellent understanding of RESTful APIs and distributed system design.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Skills
- Experience delivering projects within UK Government or other highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) delivery standards.
- Experience working within Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT) programmes.
- Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience working within DevSecOps environments.
Role and Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain modern cloud-native applications using TypeScript, Node.js and Java.
- Develop scalable backend services using Fastify and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain responsive frontend components and user-facing applications.
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL databases to support high-performance applications.
- Develop and deploy containerised applications using AWS ECS and EKS.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Develop and enhance automated CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
- Work within an Agile multidisciplinary team, contributing to sprint planning, code reviews and technical design discussions.
- Produce clean, maintainable and well-tested code following engineering best practice.
- Collaborate closely with architects, DevOps engineers, testers, product owners and business stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across software engineering and delivery practices.
