About the Role
Blue Light Card is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams. This senior individual contributor role focuses on software architecture, cloud technologies, engineering excellence, and cross-functional collaboration without direct people management responsibilities.
Working closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and development teams, you will shape technical strategy, guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and help deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality software solutions that support millions of users.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, or similar senior technical leadership role.
- Strong expertise in software architecture and large-scale system design.
- Extensive experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of software development best practices, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Passion for mentoring engineers and driving engineering excellence.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
- Design scalable, secure, and maintainable software architectures.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives and architectural improvements.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering Managers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Participate in solution design, coding, code reviews, and technical planning.
- Improve engineering standards, developer experience, observability, and operational excellence.
- Mentor software engineers and promote engineering best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement through modern development approaches and emerging technologies.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs to balance scalability, quality, performance, and business objectives.
- Support cloud infrastructure and ensure reliable production systems.
- Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical innovation across engineering teams.
