Full-Stack Engineer (AI-enabled)

We're looking for a Senior/Lead Full-Stack Engineer with an AI-native mindset to join Etch. Depending on where you are in your career, you'll either be delivering exceptional digital products as a strong senior contributor or stepping up to lead and shape how we build them. Either way, you'll be hands-on, working in small, cross-functional teams alongside designers, strategists, and product thinkers, owning a product from problem to production, with AI as a first principle from day one.

Salary: £65,000 to £100,000 DOE

Location & Working Arrangement:

  • Full-time Employed
  • Hybrid (2 days per week in-person in Southampton)

The Opportunity

This is a role that demands real craft and real impact. You'll work on ambitious digital products for clients, often embedded within their teams and codebases, with the freedom to bring your own ideas rather than merely executing briefs.

AI has fundamentally changed digital product development, and we’re looking for someone who:

  • Already delivers production-grade AI solutions with speed and quality.
  • At senior level, you’ll excel as an individual contributor across the stack while growing your influence within the team.
  • At lead level, you’ll shape product technology decisions, set standards, and drive the team forward. Both senior and lead roles matter equally to us — our-choice will align with the right fit.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Responsibilities

At both levels:

  • Deliver digital products and experiences across the full stack, end-to-end, with minimal handovers, leveraging agile, continuous loops rather than phase-gated processes.
  • Collaborate shoulder-to-shoulder with designers and product teams from day one, translating ambiguous requirements into well-defined, shipped solutions.
  • Use AI agents and tooling (core to your workflow) to push velocity in building, testing, and deploying.
  • Drive continuous improvement in client products, identifying AI-driven accelerations for quality and delivery.
  • Participate in workshops and sprint planning, shaping user stories, acceptance criteria, and estimations.
  • (Senior): Contribute to AI-led engineering ways of working (e.g., standards, tooling, best practices).
  • (Lead): Own the ways of working, including documentation, tech standards, and SOPs.

Lead-specific responsibilities:

  • Mentor and upskill engineers.
  • Identify and lead R&D opportunities.
  • Translate technical details for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Act as a technology evangelist, keeping the team updated on AI advancements.
  • Continuously measure and refine methodologies and processes.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven full-stack engineering experience, capable of writing secure, performant, and maintainable production code (frontend and backend).
  • Ownership of entire software delivery lifecycle, from designers to deployment.
  • Practical experience with AI developer tooling (e.g. Claude Code, Codex) in production settings.
  • Confidence working at pace in existing/legacy codebases under real-world constraints.
  • Knowledge of modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, Node.js, etc.).
  • Proficiency in BDD/TDD and component-driven approaches (Storybook or similar).
  • Strong REST/GraphQL API design and consumption skills.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerisation/Docker, Infrastructure as Code).
  • Ability to identify bottlenecks others overlook.
  • Desire to continuously improve technical practices and knowledge.
  • Experience working in agency environments or across multiple client projects.
  • Effective communication in distributed/embedded teams.
