About the Company

Blue Light Card is looking for talented Full Stack Engineers to join its growing Engineering team. Following a major platform transformation, the company is investing in innovative greenfield projects that deliver meaningful digital experiences for millions of frontline workers across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams while building scalable, cloud-native applications using modern technologies.

About the Role

The Full Stack Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining modern web applications across the full technology stack. Working within Agile product squads, this role partners closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to deliver high-quality features, improve platform performance, and contribute to the continuous evolution of customer-facing products.

Location: Leicester, United Kingdom (Hybrid)

Key Responsibilities

Full Stack Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using modern technologies.
  • Build new features using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and serverless backend architectures.
  • Develop secure, reliable, and maintainable APIs and application components.
  • Deliver production-ready solutions following established engineering standards.

Cloud & Platform Engineering

  • Build and deploy cloud-native applications using AWS services and serverless technologies.
  • Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code tools to manage cloud environments and deployments.
  • Support application monitoring, performance optimization, and operational reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data teams to refine requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
  • Share knowledge through documentation, technical sessions, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.

Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, architecture, and software performance.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs and contribute to architectural decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and development practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven experience developing production-ready full-stack applications.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, Next.js, and modern JavaScript development.
  • Experience building backend services and serverless APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and serverless architectures.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or SST.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, automated testing, and application performance optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams.

Preferred

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and application performance management.
  • Experience mentoring teammates or contributing to engineering communities.
  • Passion for continuous learning and technology innovation.
