Full Stack Engineer – Innovation & Analytics (PHP/JavaScript/Prototyping)
Location: 100% remote (United Kingdom only)
Matomo, an open-source analytics platform trusted by enterprises, governments, and public institutions requiring full data ownership, is expanding its engineering team. We’re seeking a Full Stack Engineer to build and deliver the next generation of privacy-first analytics capabilities, from rapid prototyping and AI-powered insights to scalable product innovations embedded directly into our core platform.
About the Role
Own end-to-end innovation development within a small, autonomous team, working closely with the CTO and senior engineers to turn high-impact concepts into practical, production-ready solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, prototyping, and delivering new features across backend (PHP) and frontend (JavaScript), with flexibility to explore Python and Node.js where relevant.
- Rapidly exploring and validating AI-powered insights and analytics features—and other opportunities in analytics, visualization, integrations, and user experience.
- Balancing speed and innovation with scalability, security, and long-term value, ensuring solutions align with privacy-first principles.
- Collaborating directly with Matomo’s co-founders and senior engineers, sharing learnings to drive company-wide innovation adoption.
- Maintaining autonomous ownership of ideas—from concept to deployment—while fostering technical excellence through testing, code reviews, and documentation.

What You Will Bring
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in backend development (PHP or Python) with databases and frontend development in JavaScript.
- A proven track record of delivering end-to-end solutions—from prototyping to production, balancing speed with quality.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, product-oriented mindset—converting user needs and strategic goals into practical solutions.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving, agile team, managing priorities independently.
- Comfortable balancing innovation speed with security, scalability, and documentation best practices.
- Experience with automated testing, code reviews, and technical documentation.
- Excellent English communication skills, with clarity in explaining ideas, rationale, and trade-offs.
- Experience working in a 100% remote, global, and agile environment.
Strong Signals (Nice to Have)
- Experience in analytics, reporting, data visualization, or AI/ML integration.
- Background contributing to or building on open-source projects.
- Familiarity with UX principles or data-driven product design.
- Prior innovation/R&D or prototyping work.
- German language proficiency.
- Experience using AI-powered tools to accelerate experimentation, development, and quality.
