Lead Software Engineer / Developer (C# .Net Desktop Application) – Reigate / WFH – £100k
Are you an expert in C# desktop development with experience in complex, scalable systems? This is an opportunity to step into a hands-on leadership role with a global Fintech company, driving impact on their flagship desktop insurance platform while shaping your career with continuous learning opportunities.
The Role
As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll:
- Lead three Agile teams of around 10 experienced software engineers, overseeing the development of a high-performance desktop insurance platform processing 4 billion requests per month.
- Take technical ownership of architecture, design, and implementation, ensuring:
- Exceptional security, reliability, maintainability, usability, and performance.
- Clean, reusable, and maintainable code aligned with modern Microsoft best practices.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and cross-functional teams to shape technical decisions and foster an Agile mindset focused on collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Balance pragmatism and technical excellence—guide senior engineers while advocating for robust solutions and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Ownership
- Drive the design and delivery of new features and enhancements for the platform.
- Champion discussions on scalability, efficiency, and system reliability—ensuring the platform meets performance needs (4B+ monthly requests).
- Architect event-driven systems and leverage modern Microsoft technologies (e.g., .NET Core, Azure, SaaS/PaaS, microservices).

Team Collaboration & Growth

- Align technical vision with product goals, bridging gaps between development and stakeholder expectations.
- Encourage clean code practices—pushing back constructively on technical trade-offs when necessary.
Advancement & Innovation
- Stay ahead of industry trends, integrating CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud-native designs.
- Advise on computer science fundamentals (e.g., OOP, design patterns, algorithms) to ensure long-term system resilience.
- Propose enhancements to system architecture to improve usability, robustness, and scalability.
Location & Work Arrangement
A hybrid work model with:
- 2 days in-office at Reigate (for team meetings & stakeholder alignment).
- 3 days fully WFH.
About You
We’re looking for a senior developer who embodies the following:
- Proven expertise in C#/Microsoft software development, particularly in:
- .NET Core/desktop applications on large-scale, dynamic systems.
- Handling high-volume transactional workloads (e.g., insurance platforms).
- Technical leadership experience—owning features, frameworks, and technical visions—not managing teams.
- Ability to:
- Collaborate with pragmatism but push boundaries (e.g., advocating for technical excellence, refactoring legacy code).
- Influence senior stakeholders in an Agile-first culture.
- Strong command of:
- Event-driven architecture, microservices, and cloud platforms (especially Azure).
- Design principles (e.g., SOLID, locality, DRY) and algorithmic problem-solving.
- Modern CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and testing automation.
- Educated in a STEM discipline (ideally Computer Science/related), with:
- A robust understanding of mathematics, data structures, and algorithmic efficiency.
