Full Stack Engineer
Senior Full Stack Engineer | Defence Tech | Up to £120k | Hybrid
About the Role
Most senior engineering roles are marketed as "about ownership." This one really is.
I’m working with a specialist software business, building mission-critical platforms used across major defence and public safety programmes. They are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to shape and develop new product capabilities within a large, multi-year UK defence transformation programme.
This is not a reactive feature delivery role—it’s long-term engineering ownership. You’ll tackle open-ended technical challenges, designing, building, and owning full-stack features across:
- UI, backend services
- APIs, integrations
- Data layer
The work sits at the intersection of: ✔ Java / Spring backend engineering ✔ Angular / TypeScript front-end development ✔ SQL databases and data-heavy systems ✔ REST APIs, event-driven architecture, and integrations ✔ CI/CD, automated testing, security, and observability ✔ Real-world defence/public sector software

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You’ll join a strong engineering team where peer leadership is valued over mandatory management progression. The company needs an engineer who:
- Can take a loosely defined problem, work with stakeholders to clarify it,
- Make sensible technical decisions,
- Design and build scalable, production-ready solutions.
Ideal for someone who:
- Thrives in ambiguity,
- Writing meaningful code (not just dashboards),
- Counters: "Why is this feature wrong?" with: "Here’s a better way."
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-stack features from concept to production:
- Define requirements with stakeholders,
- Prepare architectural designs,
- Code and iterate on UI/back-end,
- Implement CI/CD, testing, deployment.
- Drive technical excellence:
- Steward Java/Spring backend services,
- Strengthen TypeScript/Angular frontend,
- Optimise databases and data pipelines.
- Shape internal capabilities:
- Coach peers on best practices,
- Advise on security and readability.
