Company Description

SHIFT Studios is an e-Commerce growth studio focused on creating world-class online shopping experiences that scale. With over 50 years of combined experience, the team blends strategy, design, technology, and performance to build commercially focused solutions for ambitious brands. As a certified Shopify Premier Partner, SHIFT Studios designs, develops, and optimizes high-performing e-Commerce websites across Shopify and Shopify Plus, from conversion-driven UX to complex back-end integrations. The in-house team collaborates across the entire ecommerce ecosystem, working with leading platforms in loyalty, reviews, subscriptions, ERPs, and advanced integrations to deliver scalable, stable, and future-ready builds. SHIFT Studios partners with growth-minded founders and teams across fashion, tech, food, luxury, and more, united by a commitment to craft, performance, and measurable results.

Alongside client work, we build and scale our own ventures. The most exciting of these right now is Cubby — an AI-powered household food agent that turns a video of your fridge into a fully managed pantry, expiry alerts, recipes, and a weekly shop, all with one tap to approve. Cubby is at an early, fast-moving stage, and this role will contribute directly to building its product from the ground up alongside our client work.

Role Description

As a Senior Full-Stack / React Native Engineer at SHIFT Studios, you will own the end-to-end technical build of our products — from mobile client through to backend, data, and infrastructure. In this full-time remote role, you will work closely with designers, strategists, and marketers to turn product concepts and customer insights into robust, production-grade experiences that ship fast and stay stable.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Your immediate priority is Cubby. You will lead a ground-up rebuild of the core product in Expo / React Native, replacing an early prototype with a properly architected, tested, and instrumented codebase. This is a single codebase that serves the validation cohort today and becomes the iOS go-to-market app tomorrow — so you'll make pragmatic, durable decisions rather than throwaway ones. You'll build the core loop end to end: inventory ingestion (receipt photo OCR, e-receipt parsing, kitchen snapshot, manual entry), the expiry engine, inventory-aware recipe generation, and outcome logging — wiring native camera, push notifications, and product analytics so the core loops can be proven with real users.

On the backend, you'll design and own the services and data layer behind Cubby: APIs, the PostgreSQL data model and vector store, integrations with cloud vision/OCR and LLM providers, authentication, and a swappable service layer for third-party tools. You'll stand up CI/CD, error monitoring, and event instrumentation from day one so that both quantitative loop metrics and qualitative cohort feedback flow from a single, trustworthy pipeline.

Alongside venture work, you'll contribute to client delivery — building and integrating high-performing e-Commerce experiences on Shopify and Shopify Plus, including complex back-end and third-party integrations across loyalty, reviews, subscriptions, and ERPs. You will help set engineering standards, review code, mentor other developers, and champion pragmatic, quality-first practices across projects.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Strong full-stack engineering capability, with the ability to own a product end to end — from mobile client to backend, data, and deployment.
  • Advanced experience with React Native and Expo, shipping and maintaining production mobile apps (including EAS build/submit, over-the-air updates, and TestFlight/App Store distribution).
  • Expert TypeScript across both client and server, with a track record of building typed, tested, maintainable codebases.
  • Solid backend experience (Node.js or similar), including REST/GraphQL API design, authentication, and integrating third-party services behind clean abstractions.
  • Strong data skills with PostgreSQL and familiarity with vector stores / embeddings for search and matching use cases.
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM APIs and cloud vision/OCR services, including prompt design, confidence scoring, and routing low-confidence results to human confirmation.
  • Comfort with native device capabilities — camera capture and push notifications — and the trade-offs between web, PWA, and native delivery.
  • Experience standing up CI/CD, error monitoring (e.g. Sentry), and product/event analytics, treating instrumentation as a first-class part of the build.
  • Track record of shipping 0→1 products in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, making sensible scope and architecture decisions under time pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, present technical rationale, and collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional team.
  • Experience with e-Commerce builds, ideally on Shopify or Shopify Plus (including complex back-end and platform integrations), is a strong plus given our client work.
  • Experience with mobile, AI, or agentic products is a strong plus given our venture work.
