Full Stack Software Engineer
Software Engineer (Generative AI Development Infrastructure) – Glasgow
About the Role
hackajob is partnering with Barclays to connect them with exceptional professionals for this critical role.
We are seeking experienced Software Engineers to enable adoption of industry-standard Generative AI development tools across our enterprise platform.
In this role, you’ll build the infrastructure, supporting applications, and tooling that empowers teams to leverage AI-assisted developer tooling at scale. The role demands a strong foundation in full-stack software engineering, including production-level code writing, cloud infrastructure architecture, and a passion for DevOps methodologies alongside modern AI development practices.
As part of the team, you’ll:
- Significantly improve developer productivity and software quality across our organisation
- Balance technical implementation with documentation and training
- Drive adoption of modern development tooling while maintaining security and compliance standards
Key Responsibilities
Technical Implementation & Architecture
- Design, develop, and improve scalable and high-quality software solutions
- Utilise production-grade programming languages, frameworks, and tools
- Build infrastructure and tooling enabling Generative AI development adoption
- Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define software requirements
- Align solutions with business objectives and seamless integration strategies
- Engage in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and fostering technical excellence

Location & Position Level
This role is based in Glasgow at the Assistant Vice President (AVP) level, meaning you’ll also have leadership or consultative accountabilities.

Requirements
Core technical and professional skills
✅ Significant experience in delivering production-grade software ✅ Strong full-stack software engineering (frontend, backend, APIs, databases) ✅ Hands-on AWS, Azure, or GCP experience on cloud platforms ✅ Proficiency in modern CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) ✅ Unit testing practices for maintainable and reliable code
Highly valued skills
🔹 Enterprise-grade backend development (Java Spring Boot preferred) 🔹 Infrastructure as Code / IaC deployment (Terraform, Kubernetes, ARM templates) 🔹 LLM applications development for software tooling 🔹 Prompt engineering to enhance AI development practices
