Job Description
A highly skilled, experienced teacher is required to provide a homeschooled education for a ten-year-old girl, eight-year-old boy, and a six-year-old girl whilst living in Warri, Nigeria. The children currently attend an American international school and follow an American curriculum. The family have made the decision to transition to a bespoke homeschooling programme built around the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme philosophy. We are therefore seeking an exceptional educator with significant IB PYP experience who can confidently lead this transition, designing an inquiry-based curriculum that provides continuity while preparing the children for future IGCSE studies and ultimately the IB Diploma Programme.
The Nigerian family spend the majority of the school year at home, but also travel extensively. The tutor will be expected to deliver an outstanding homeschooled education and also travel with the family when needed, taking advantage of the various locations to add outstanding academic and personal developmental experiences.
The family’s Christian faith is central to their family life and informs the values by which they seek to raise their children. Students
- All three students currently study at an American international school in Nigeria.
- Eldest student: inquisitive, sporty ten-year-old girl. Enjoys social studies, English, science, and music. Benefits from a tutor who can play the piano.
- Eight-year-old boy: loves English and geography. Keen football player. Enjoys being outdoors.
- Six-year-old girl: enjoys football. Making good progress in all core subjects.
All three students will thrive in a supportive, compassionate learning environment, studying with a teacher who is patient, happy to coach them to solutions, and makes learning fun.
The successful candidate must have demonstrable experience supporting neurodivergent learners within an inclusive educational environment. Relevant experience supporting learners with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, executive functioning differences, or related learning needs would be highly advantageous.

Job Description
The teacher will be an outstanding educator with suitable experience and expertise teaching students of the appropriate age range and above. They should be very comfortable delivering a wide range of subjects.
The tutor will be required to design and deliver an inspirational curriculum based around the International Baccalaureate system. The family have intentionally chosen a homeschooling model because they value the flexibility to provide an individualized education that is responsive to each child’s strengths, interests, and learning needs. They are particularly drawn to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme because of its inquiry-based approach, international perspective, and emphasis on developing thoughtful, compassionate, and globally minded young people.
The educator will implement a rigorous and wide-ranging program of study, designed to address the learning needs of each child. This will have aspects of collaborative work, but is likely to be principally delivered on an individual basis whilst taking full advantage of their location and travels to add breadth and depth to the education provided. The tutor should be able to adapt their teaching as required to provide the maximum benefit for each of the student’s different learning styles.
The educator will mainly work with the children during normal school hours. This will include evaluating where further support would be most beneficial and delivering appropriate tutoring that both supports and extends their academic attainment. Clear targets should be in place for each child to enable the tutor to closely monitor their progress.
The role is broader than just teaching – there is a mentoring and caring element to it as well. The tutor is expected to engage with the students’ recreation and leisure activities as well as the more formal lessons to encourage their general development and help embed a lifelong love of learning and desire to explore the world around them.
The family believes that travel is one of life’s greatest classrooms. The educator should thoughtfully integrate the children’s experiences around the world into the curriculum, allowing them to learn from history, culture, geography, science, language, and service opportunities in authentic and meaningful ways.

When travelling, the tutor will sometimes be expected to be flexible with their working hours. This should be viewed as an opportunity to add context to the students’ studies using trips and excursions to highlight real-world connections to their learning experiences.
The educator will not simply be an outstanding teacher. They will be an exceptional educator, mentor, and role model who will partner with the family in raising children who are academically excellent, emotionally healthy, spiritually grounded, compassionate, globally aware, and equipped to flourish wherever life takes them.
The educator should be emotionally intelligent, patient, organised, flexible, discreet, collaborative, nurturing, resilient, and committed to lifelong learning. They should be confident adapting the curriculum, teaching methods, and assessment for differing learning profiles and should have experience working alongside educational psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, or similar professionals where appropriate.
Experience and skills in horse-riding, soccer, or softball would be advantageous.
Hours and Holidays
- This is a full-time position encompassing up to 40 hours per week.
- The tutor will work with the students throughout the week, mainly during normal school hours whilst in Warri. Flexibility is required as one of the advantages of this approach is that the family are not constrained by school timetables, etc. The tutor should be happy to travel with the family for extended periods occasionally.
- The school year will broadly follow the US system, starting mid-August and finishing in late May.
- The tutor will be entitled to 45 days of paid holiday per year, to be taken at times convenient to the client.
Accommodation and Travel
- Separate accommodation will be provided by the client.
- The client will assist with any necessary visas.
- All costs and accommodation associated with travel will be covered by the client.
- The client will pay the tutor $60 per diem for food whilst travelling.
- The client will provide two return tickets to the tutor’s home base each contract year.
