To deliver high-quality, engaging programmes in English, mathematics and ICT from entry level through to Level 2. The primary objective is to support learners in developing their literacy, numeracy and digital literacy skills by providing comprehensive teaching, learning, guidance, and support. The tutor will play a key role in helping learners achieve their educational goals and improve their English, mathematics and ICT proficiency. This role is based in Bolton, with delivery also taking place across Greater Manchester and/or remotely as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality teaching and learning sessions, workshops, and tutorials in line with curriculum requirements and individual learner needs.
- Assess learners’ English, mathematics and digital abilities, identifying areas for improvement and tailoring teaching methods accordingly.
- Develop and deliver engaging and interactive sessions using a variety of teaching techniques and resources to enhance learner understanding and engagement.
- Provide individualised support to learners, addressing specific learning needs through one-on-one meetings and additional learning resources.
- Monitor and track learners' progress, providing regular feedback and implementing strategies to address areas of weakness.
- Set and mark assignments, tests, and examinations, providing constructive feedback to learners to support their development.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in team meetings and training sessions.
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting learner participation, motivation, and confidence in English, mathematics and ICT.
- Communicate regularly with learners, employers, and relevant stakeholders to provide updates on progress and address concerns.
- Stay up to date with developments in English, mathematics and digital education, curriculum changes, and teaching methodologies to continuously improve teaching standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications and specific training
- Minimum of A-level or equivalent qualification in English (essential)
- Minimum of A-level or equivalent qualification in mathematics
- Minimum of A-level or equivalent qualification in ICT (essential)
- Qualified teacher status (e.g., Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS) or a commitment to obtaining it (essential)
- Full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle insured for business use (essential)
Experience
- Proven experience in teaching or tutoring English, mathematics and ICT up to at least Functional Skills level 2 or equivalent in all subjects (essential)
- Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds and with varying abilities (essential)
- Experience of developing stimulating and engaging maths programmes (essential)
- Experience of using data analysis to inform teaching and improve learner outcomes (desirable)
Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of the Functional Skills English and maths curriculums and assessment requirements (essential)
- Strong knowledge of digital literacy and Essential Digital Skills qualifications (essential)
- Excellent understanding of teaching methodologies and strategies for supporting diverse learners (essential)
- Familiarity with assessment practices and methods for tracking learner progress (essential)
- Knowledge of Safeguarding, GDPR and Equality and Diversity in education. (essential)
- Awareness of current educational policies and initiatives impacting English, maths and digital education (desirable)
