The role
The postholder will plan, deliver, high quality engaging, and interactive Maths and English learning sessions, ensuring that all learners are effectively supported in meeting the Maths and English requirements of their Functional Skills qualification pathways including Stepping Stones to Functional Skills and Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills.
You will provide robust teaching, learning, and assessment for learners who need to develop their Maths and English skills alongside their main vocational studies, undertaking regular reviews to monitor progress and remove barriers to achievement. Programmes of learning will be well-structured, responsive, and inclusive, with teaching adapted to meet individual learner needs and promote sustained progress. This will ensure that every learner can participate fully and productively in their programme.
You will collaborate closely with delivery teams across Apprenticeships, ASF, Study Programme, and Skills Bootcamps to ensure that learners with additional learning needs are identified at the earliest opportunity. You will contribute to the planning and implementation of tailored support strategies and ensure that this support is maintained consistently throughout each learner’s programme.
As part of this dual role you will also provide additional learning support in a group and 1:1 setting which may include aspects such as study skills, pastoral support or support with health and wellbeing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
