About Herbal Reality

Herbal Reality is a leading independent herbal education platform and charity dedicated to making trusted herbal medicine knowledge accessible to everyone. Through expert articles, educational resources, videos, and community outreach, Herbal Reality supports both the public and practitioners with evidence and tradition-based plant medicine education.

With over 500,000 annual website visitors and a growing international audience, we are entering an exciting phase of growth and are seeking an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial Fundraising & Partnerships Manager to help expand our impact and financial sustainability.

Role overview

We are looking for an experienced freelance fundraiser and partnerships professional to develop and lead Herbal Reality’s fundraising strategy and external partnerships.

This role is ideal for someone who is mission-driven, proactive, and excited by the opportunity to help grow a respected voice in herbal education and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will identify and secure funding opportunities, cultivate aligned partnerships and help build long-term financial resilience for Herbal Reality.

Key responsibilities

Fundraising strategy

  • Develop and implement a fundraising strategy aligned with Herbal Reality’s mission and growth goals
  • Identify new revenue opportunities across grants, donations, sponsorships, memberships, and campaigns
  • Build and manage a fundraising pipeline and reporting system
  • Help establish annual fundraising targets and KPIs

Grants & trusts

  • Research and identify relevant grant opportunities
  • Write and submit compelling funding applications
  • Manage relationships with trusts, foundations, and philanthropic funders
  • Prepare impact reports and funding updates

Partnerships & sponsorship

  • Develop strategic partnerships with aligned organisations, educational institutions, and wellbeing charities
  • Secure sponsorship opportunities for Herbal Reality content, campaigns, and events
  • Negotiate partnership agreements and maintain partner relationships
  • Explore affiliate, ambassador, and collaborative campaign opportunities
  • Facilitate engagement and relations with journalists
  • Help promote our online presence through identifying potential social media collaborations

Community & donor development

  • Support donor engagement and community fundraising initiatives
  • Help strengthen supporter communications and donation journeys
  • Identify opportunities to grow recurring giving and membership support

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Herbal Reality leadership and content team
  • Contribute ideas for campaigns, outreach, and audience growth
  • Represent Herbal Reality professionally and authentically within the wellbeing and charity sectors

Person specification

Essential

  • Proven experience in fundraising, partnerships, or business development within the charity, wellbeing, education, or social impact sectors
  • Strong track record of securing grants, sponsorships, or strategic partnerships
  • Excellent written communication and proposal-writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects and reporting
  • Effective relationship-building and networking skills

Any herbal or healthcare related studies, experience or qualifications

Desirable

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work independently
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills
  • Experience in the wellbeing, herbal medicine, sustainability, or health education sectors
  • Existing connections with relevant trusts, foundations or aligned sponsors
  • Experience working with small charities where fundraising infrastructure is being established.

Role details

Freelance position

  • Remote and flexible working
  • Approx. 1.5 days per week initially
  • UK-based preferred but open internationally
  • Initial six-month contract, to review and likely extend

Compensation

  • Freelancer day rate: From £150/day for 1.5 days per week, to be reviewed after six months
  • Performance-related bonus for successful large funding partnerships or grants
