An exciting opportunity
An exciting opportunity to build a strong foundation in fundraising and develop the skills needed for a successful career in fundraising. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm, a willingness and drive to learn, and a genuine interest in raising critical funds for our hospice.
What you'll do at work
- Undertake apprenticeship learning and attend mandatory apprenticeship lessons to be able to progress through the apprenticeship.
- Introduce and build relationships with supporters, particularly via the telephone, and to gather information pertinent to their ongoing supporter journey, escalating relationships to relevant colleagues when appropriate to do so.
- Accurately record appropriate information on our supporter database and our digital files.
- Support any activity that enables the effective delivery of supporter plans and strategies. This may include sending welcome packs, producing personalised thank you’s, making stewardship phone calls or assisting in the planning and delivery of engagement events.
- Provide excellent experiences to donors, being the first point of contact for taking donations in line with relevant procedures.
- Support the recruitment and manage volunteers for fundraising activities.
- Provide administrative support such as opening and sorting post, managing the events, in-memory and fundraising email inboxes, and supporting day-to-day office operations.
- Collate and pack resources such as collection pots, fundraising collateral, gazebos, and relevant literature, as required. (Please note that there is a physical element to this role.)
- Support with collection pots and bucket collections.
- Occasionally attend and support events, which may take place during evenings or weekends.
- Support our in-memory fundraising and donations, to include online services (such as Much Loved), Funeral collections, and our Memory Leaves offering.
- Work with Fundraising and Partnerships and the wider team on other projects as required.
- Represent the organisation and attend engagements in the local community as identified and as requested by line managers, including, but not limited to, events, cheque presentations and engagement opportunities.
- Actively stay informed of developments at St Catherine’s Hospice and in the hospice and wider charitable sectors, both locally and nationally.
- Provide a supportive, engaging and welcoming experience for all volunteers we encounter through our work.
- Comply with Hospice policies relating to confidentiality, Disclosure and Baring Service, equal opportunities, GDPR and security.
- Undertake any other duties considered to fall within the scope of the role.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Uses the most appropriate communication method for the message through the use of good questions and listening techniques
- Identify and apply pragmatic solutions using a range of methods to maximise value to the organisation
- Use data management (compliant with data protection regulation) and analysis to produce and present evidence to support, validate and/or review fundraising activity to different stakeholders, such as analysing the effectiveness of a fundraising event
- Evaluate and make unsupervised decisions quickly based on the current situation or environment
- Control, monitor and analyse expenditure and/or financial fundraising transactions to maximise spend on the organisation's charitable cause, including Gift Aid
- Use a variety of information sources (compliant with data protection regulation) to identify individuals, groups or organisations who can potentially provide effective support for the organisation
- Plan and prioritise time to ensure fundraising activities are managed well and fundraising potential is maximised
- Build relationships and identify, engage, sustain and satisfy the on-going needs of supporters and stakeholders by building rapport and trust, and resolve conflicts constructively
- Identify and apply appropriate technological solutions to improve the effectiveness of processes, procedures and development of fundraising activity
- Demonstrates self-awareness and recognises their own emotions and their impact on self and others.
- Adapt and tailor presentation style and technique to meet the needs of the audience
- Build a diverse network both internally and externally
- Articulate and communicate the mission, goals and activities of your organisation to influence others to engage with your cause, applying appropriate fundraising techniques such as networking, handling objections, negotiating and making an ask
- Adapt working style depending on the situation or needs of the other person
- Identify, evaluate and apply solutions to problems as they arise

Training schedule
The training will be delivered virtually by an external company. You will be allocated the time to attend the sessions. You can do this from the office or home. You will be provided with a personal laptop for this purpose.
Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
