Fundraising Assistant

Hexham (with hybrid working)
Fixed-term contract – 2 years
18.5 hours per week (2.5 days)
Salary: £25989 - £27254 per annum pro rata

Northumberland National Park Authority is looking for a Fundraising Assistant to support our Communications and Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping us secure funding that protects, enhances and celebrates one of England's most iconic National Parks.

Working closely with our Fundraising Officer and Head of Communications and Development, you'll help deliver fundraising campaigns, support funding applications, steward donors, coordinate communications, and ensure our supporters receive an excellent experience.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting fundraising activity and funding applications
  • Helping to build and maintain relationships with donors and supporters
  • Creating and scheduling engaging social media content
  • Updating website content and maintaining digital assets
  • Maintaining accurate records and supporting reporting
  • Providing administrative support across the Communications and Development team

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong administration experience
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital systems
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to excellent customer service

Experience in fundraising, the charity sector, social media or website content management is desirable but not essential.

Job Details

  • Contract: Fixed term – 2 years
  • Hours: 2.5 days per week
  • Salary: Band 3
  • Reporting to: Head of Communications and Development
  • Location: Hexham (with some Hybrid working)

Job Purpose

To provide administrative and operational support to the Communications and Development team, contributing to the effective delivery of fundraising activities and communications outputs.

The role will support donor stewardship, funding applications, digital communications, and audience engagement, ensuring excellent stakeholder experience and efficient internal processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following is typical of the duties the postholder will be expected to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive, and other duties of a similar nature and level may be required from time to time.

Fundraising Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Fundraising Officer across a range of fundraising activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of funding applications, including gathering supporting information and documentation.
  • Support the administration of donor stewardship, including maintaining accurate records, drafting correspondence, and coordinating acknowledgements.
  • Undertake prospect research to identify potential funders, partners, and supporters.
  • Assist in the organisation of fundraising meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and taking notes where required.
  • Maintain and update records to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
  • Support monitoring and reporting processes for funding programmes, including data collection and basic analysis.

Communications and Marketing Support

  • Assist the Fundraising team with the delivery of fundraising communications activity.
  • Schedule and publish fundraising content across social media platforms in line with agreed plans.
  • Update website content using the content management system, ensuring information is accurate and engaging.
  • Assist the Communications and Development team to maintain an up-to-date image library.

Administration and Coordination

  • Provide general administrative support to the Head of Communications and Development and wider team as required.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to planning and coordination activities.
  • Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation in line with organisational procedures.
  • Support coordination of internal processes between fundraising and communications functions.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the team by responding to enquiries relating to fundraising as and when required.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service is maintained at all times.

General Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively across teams to support organisational objectives.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience providing administrative support in a professional environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with digital systems.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in fundraising, charity, or not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience using social media platforms in a professional or organisational context.
  • Experience updating websites using a CMS.
  • Experience supporting funding applications or reporting.
  • Understanding of digital communications and content planning.
  • Interest in the organisation’s mission and activities.
