Fundraising strategist to assist a team - Volunteer
Looking for the perfect person to assist Chaffinch in creating fundraising strategy that will provide our supporters with ways to donate and also engage new audiences to increase Chaffinch's income.
What difference will you make?
Chaffinch is still a relatively small charity with a modest annual turnover. Many will overlook us as being insignificant amongst the larger charities. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera but we are currently unable to achieve our potential due to a lack of experience and knowledge in some important fields. Finding the right volunteer for this role could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.
What are we looking for?
Our ideal volunteer will have experience of creating fundraising strategy or experience of fundraising for a small charity. They will understand both the possibilities and limitations of small charity fundraising. An understanding of popular fundraising methods is vital but we are also looking for someone who can personalise such methods.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The volunteer will need to be able to adhere to strict ethical guidelines and understand the reasons behind their implementation. It is vital that the volunteer portray the charity and its beneficiaries in a way that supports the overall aims and mission of Chaffinch. Therefore, a strong understanding of the charity's purpose is essential.
More than anything else, our ideal volunteer will have a passion for the work of Chaffinch with the children of Kibera.

What will you be doing?
We need a volunteer passionate about using their skills to really make a difference.
This role will involve creating a fundraising strategy. There will also be the opportunity to get actively involved in the subsequent fundraising activities.
We are looking for someone who can work independently but also support/train a team of fundraising volunteers to implement the strategy. We have a small team ready to get to work on fundraising initiatives and just needing someone to provide a bit of direction.
We are a small and friendly charity expecting effort rather than perfection!
