About the Role
Join our funeral service crew and provide compassionate, professional support to families during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
No prior experience is required. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. You’ll be part of a meaningful role within the Co-op, an organisation committed to people and communities.
What You Need to Know
This role involves direct physical contact with deceased individuals as part of essential duties. Such contact may vary depending on the role, so careful thought should be given to personal comfort levels before applying.
You will assist families in saying a perfect goodbye to their loved ones.
Typical Duties
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Transportation: Safely collect the deceased from multiple locations and scenarios with professionalism, empathy, and sensitivity
- Vehicle Handling: Bear coffins on funeral day and drive funeral vehicles
- Equipment Cleanliness: Maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities to a high standard
- Preparation: Prepare and engrave coffins for funeral services
- Care of the Deceased: Prepare deceased individuals in our care for viewings and funerals
- Client Record Keeping: Update client management applications regularly with detailed, accurate information
- Safeguarding: Safely lift, carry, and move coffins using approved techniques and equipment. Follow health and safety guidelines to prevent injury

What This Role Looks for

- Driving: Valid full manual UK driving licence is a must
- Physical Ability: Capable of performing physical tasks, including manual lifting. Training and safety equipment will be provided
- IT Literacy: Comfortable with standard technology (computers, tablets, smartphones, printers, and scanners). Keen to learn new systems and applications
- Customer Focus: Ability to react calmly, compassionately, and empathically in emotionally charged situations.
- Exceptional customer service skills are essential
- Attention to Detail: Vigilant approach to regulatory policies, compliance, and process accuracy
