Funeral Service Crew

Funeral Service Crew │ Bright Salmon Road, Brighton, BN1 4JH

£13.24 per hour + benefits Full-time (25 hours/week) – Varied shifts (Mon–Fri 08:30–16:30) + on-call roster 1 week in every 5 covering: Mon–Fri 16:30–20:00 / Sat & Sun 08:00–20:00


About the Role

Help families with compassion and dignity in saying a final goodbye. Join a supportive team that combines ethical care for the deceased with logistic expertise.

No prior experience in the funeral industry is required—full training, ongoing support, and a competitive pension scheme are provided.


Responsibilities

These duties are typical but the role may require additional tasks:

  • Collect and care for the deceased from various locations and settings
  • Transport and bear coffins to funeral venues
  • Professionally prepare deceased bodies for viewings and funerals
  • Engrave coffins with nameplates
  • Maintain equipment (vehicle Cary Handling Aids) in a clean and safe condition
  • Drive funeral vehicles with sensitivity and care
  • Accurately record details on client management software daily
  • Safely lift and move coffins using prescribed techniques (training provided)

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • A full manual UK driving licence (required for transportation duties)
  • Physical capacity for manual lifting, moving, and mobility (training in safe practices provided)
  • Basic IT proficiency with confidence in using devices (computers, tablets, scanners)
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and work independently
  • Empathetic, sensitive approach to handling emotional customers
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy to comply with legal/policy regulations

Additional Information

  • DBS checks, health questionnaires, and social media screenings are mandatory
  • Occasional weekend/evening on-call shifts are part of this role
