Funeral Service Operative – Casual Hours

Location: Barry Pritchard Funeral Services – Swallownest Salary: £12.71 per hour Contract: Variable & Casual Hours (on-call & out-of-hours opportunities)

About Us

At Funeral Partners, we provide a sensitive, professional service to families in our care, setting new standards of excellence in the funeral profession. We are proud to be the third largest funeral services provider in the UK, overseeing over 20,000 funerals annually across our network of 240 funeral homes.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a casual Funeral Service Operative at Barry Pritchard Funeral Services (Swallownest). This role offers flexible hours to fit with existing commitments, while ensuring you play a crucial role in providing care and support to families during an incredibly difficult time.

Our Funeral Service Operatives are the first points of contact for families. You will be responsible for providing reassurance, preparing deceased loved ones for their final journey, and ensuring every funeral service runs smoothly. This role involves both emotional and practical work, including:

  • Driving company vehicles (a full driving licence is required)
  • Assisting in the mortuary and funeral preparations (fitting coffins, dressing the deceased)
  • Participating in funeral services, pallbearing, and ground liaison
  • Occasional on-call duties, including evening/weekend shifts for additional payment

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
