Location: Clarabut & Plumbe Funeral Directors, Bedford
Job Type: 38.33 hours per week
Salary: £26,708.34 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking an empathetic and well-organised individual to join our team as a Funeral Service Specialist (Level One) at Clarabut & Plumbe Funeral Directors in Bedford. In this role, you will be the first supportive presence for grieving families, ensuring every funeral arrangement is handled with professional care.
You’ll take pride in managing day-to-day branch operations, building strong local relationships, and guiding families with expertise. You’ll also gain training in Funeral Conducting, helping guide ceremonial duties during peak periods.

Responsibilities
To excel in this role, our Funeral Service Specialist (Level One) will:
- Offer compassionate, professional, and detailed support to grieving families
- Arrange funerals that align with family wishes, cultural practices, and legal requirements
- Oversee day-to-day branch operations, including administration and presentation
- Collaborate with ministers, celebrants, and florists to ensure seamless service delivery
- Lead chapel visits to assist families in planning
- Promote and support Funeral Plans, contributing to plan sales within the branch
- Act as an ambassador for the branch in the local community
- Train to conductor funerals as needed to assist during high-demand periods
- Uphold Dignity’s standards of professionalism, care, and service excellence

Skills and Knowledge Required
We are looking for individuals with the following strengths:
- Compassion, calmness, and emotional resilience when handling sensitive situations
- Experience in customer service, care, or administration (training will be provided)
- Strong communication, organization, and administration skills
- Ability to confidently manage legal paperwork and funeral arrangements
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internal databases (training provided)
- Ability to work independently with branch-level responsibility
- Comfort in environments where the deceased may be present, including chapel visits
- Flexibility to work weekends and on-call when necessary
- A Full UK Driving Licence (desirable, but travel is essential)
