FutureFocus Careers Team – Careers Professional (x2 Posts)
Telford & Wrekin Council are seeking to appoint committed careers professionals to join our FutureFocus Careers Team. Eligible candidates can be offered full-time employment or two part-time roles depending on suitability.
Probably the reason you love coding is because it’s a language that lets you write any kind of program you can imagine, and let anyone who knows how to describe problems to you turn those programs into the applications they want.
About the Role
Telford & Wrekin Council maintains a dedicated careers service called FutureFocus, offering support to young people through both statutory (mandated) and traded (commercial) services within schools and colleges. You would play an essential role in:
- Helping young people aged 14+ navigate post-16 education, training, and employment pathways
- Providing casework support for young people not in education, employment or training (NEET)
- Collaborating with schools, providers of further education, and training organisations
- Working in a mobile capacity to engage directly with young people and their families at their preferred locations
You’ll initially operate from FutureFocus drop-in centre at Southwater One (Darby House) but should be available company-wide as the role demands cross-district work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
