This is an appointment for our UK dev team - BITMAP BUREAU

About Bitmap Bureau

Founded in 2016 by industry veterans Matt Cope and Mike Tucker, Bitmap Bureau is a game development studio based in Southampton. Bitmap Bureau are truly passionate about retro games and are dedicated to creating new titles that hark back to gaming’s golden era through 2D graphics, authentic packaging, and a traditional hands-on approach to coding and development.

Notable releases include Xeno Crisis, Final Vendetta, and Terminator 2D: NO FATE, with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction coming soon!

The Role

We are looking for a Game Designer to work with our team on a new 2D action/adventure title.

This is a hands-on gameplay design position focused on combat, boss encounters, progression systems, and difficulty balancing.

You will work closely with the Production team and Gameplay Programmer to evolve, create, and refine the game’s core system and mechanics.

This is a full-time, office-based role in Southampton.

Responsibilities

Combat & Boss Design

  • Design and iterate on enemy behaviors and combat encounters
  • Create varied and distinct, multi-phase boss fights
  • Balance player abilities against evolving enemy challenge
  • Tune the overall game difficulty curve

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
