Gameplay Designer (Characters) - Fully Remote
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Gameplay Designer (Characters) based in United Kingdom.
Join a fully remote game development team creating engaging third-person gameplay experiences through memorable and dynamic character design. In this role, you will shape the combat mechanics, abilities, and gameplay identity of playable characters, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams from concept through release. Your creativity and technical expertise will directly influence player engagement by delivering balanced, exciting, and polished gameplay systems. Working in a collaborative environment that values autonomy, innovation, and continuous improvement, you will have the opportunity to prototype, iterate, and refine character experiences using player feedback and gameplay analytics. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate gameplay designer eager to leave a lasting impact on a major game project.
Accountabilities
- Design innovative playable characters with unique gameplay mechanics, combat styles, weapons, and abilities.
- Develop character gameplay features from initial concept through prototyping, implementation, balancing, and final release.
- Collaborate closely with gameplay programmers, animators, designers, and other cross-functional teams to deliver engaging combat experiences.
- Create and refine combat mechanics by leveraging gameplay metrics, player feedback, and data-driven insights.
- Balance character strengths, weaknesses, and counterplay to ensure enjoyable and competitive gameplay.
- Prototype gameplay systems and iterate on designs to continuously improve player experience and overall game quality.

Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Character or Gameplay Designer, with experience shipping multiple game titles.
- Strong passion for third-person action and combat gameplay, supported by extensive familiarity with a wide range of games in the genre.
- Proven ability to design compelling characters with distinctive gameplay identities and mechanics.
- Deep understanding of combat design principles, including balancing abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and counterplay.
- Experience creating and testing hands-on gameplay prototypes.
- Practical experience using Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints to design and implement gameplay abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote development environment.
