About The Role

Balfour Beatty's UKCS Living Places business has an exciting opportunity for a Highway Ganger to join our team in Lincolnshire.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be responsible for leading a gang in the delivery of highway maintenance and improvement works across the local road network. You will play a key role in ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently, to a high standard of quality, and in line with programme and client requirements.

Working within a strong safety culture, you will help deliver essential infrastructure improvements that support local communities while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and operational excellence.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading a highway maintenance gang to deliver works safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Carrying out and overseeing a wide range of highway maintenance activities including kerb laying, footway improvements, asphalt and foam base laying, drainage works, traffic signal chamber and duct installation, vegetation clearance, excavation works and vacuum excavation activities.
  • Liaising closely with Supervisors and Agents to ensure site briefings, permits and work activities are properly coordinated.
  • Using site drawings, specifications and digital systems to ensure works are completed right first time.
  • Monitoring materials, plant and equipment to maximise productivity and efficiency.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture by reporting observations, close calls and good practices.
  • Supporting emergency response activities, winter maintenance services and out-of-hours operations when required.
  • Building positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service.
  • Contributing to the effective management of resources to support successful project delivery.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a motivated, safety-focused individual with experience in highway maintenance, groundworks or construction. You will enjoy leading teams, take pride in the quality of your work and be committed to delivering excellent results for our clients and communities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
