Ganger Groundworker
Lead Hand / Ganger – Groundworks (Northampton Area)
At JN Bentley Ltd, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Lead Hand / Ganger to lead a groundworks gang based in, and around, the Northampton area, primarily working on the Anglian Water framework. Ideal candidates will preferably be able to recruit with a Skilled or Semi-Skilled Groundworker.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in civils and groundworks to join a well-established, growing business. The role demands a proactive attitude towards work, health & safety, and experience within the water industry and general civil work, including concreting, deep drainage, and pipelaying.
About the Role
Reporting to Site Management, you will:
- Lead and supervise a groundworks gang across construction sites, primarily in the water industry.
- Maintain high standards of productivity, quality, and health & safety.
Note: Due to the regional spread of projects, lodging away may occasionally be required.
Candidate Specification
- Proven experience managing a gang on civils projects.
- Ideally possess a ready-made gang with experienced Skilled and General Operatives.
- Strong health & safety focus, with experience in a reporting culture.
- Experience in general civil works, including:
- Concrete pours
- Deep drainage
- Pipe laying

Certifications & Qualifications:
- Current CSCS, CPCS / NOCN, or NPORS card with:
- An associated NVQ
- Relevant plant hire tickets
- Completion of Site Supervisor or Site Management training.
License Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
Additional Considerations:
- Advantageous to have:
- National Water Hygiene card
- Thames Water Passport
- Slinger / Signaller or Crane Lift Supervisor certification
- Confined Spaces (City & Guilds) qualification
- Any additonal plant tickets
- 3-day First Aid qualification
