We are looking for enthusiastic garden volunteers to join us at Rievaulx Terrace
The Garden Volunteers at Rievaulx Terrace keep the place looking amazing – by keeping the grass trim, the site clean and working with our gardens team to make sure the landscape is managed and protected.
As a member of the gardens team you’ll help maintain and develop the gardens. The role includes:
- Working with and taking instruction from the garden staff and being able to work as part of a team and independently
- Participating in a broad range of horticultural activities including mowing, mulching, weeding, pruning, planting and re-potting
- Answering questions from visitors and offering information where appropriate regarding the site and its history, or direct them to an appropriate colleague.

- Understand and implement safety procedures including evacuation
- Maintain a level of visitor supervision in the garden.
We will work with existing volunteers to understand how much time you have been giving and what is needed now.
You will mainly be based at Rievaulx Terrace, Helmsley, however as we build the volunteer programme there will also be opportunities to work with the gardens team at Rievaulx Abbey.
