Garment Technologist- Childrenswear
A small, friendly fashion business is looking for a Garment Technologist to join their team in their Manchester offices. Working across Childrenswear and Nightwear, you will understand the complexities and regulations surrounding this product area.
They are wanting someone who is a positive force at driving change for the better, to streamline and improve processes for the business and the product they produce.
This role is Hybrid- 3 days office based.
Garment Technologist - The Role
- Ensure products are approved and developed in line with critical path to minimise shipment delays.
- Ensure factory practices and procedures are fit for purpose to minimise failure costs and shipment delays.
- Maximise speed to market through efficient use of offshore offices, appropriate supply base, accurate communication channels and innovative processing techniques.
- Minimising returns and cost of quality through effective supplier and product management.
- An understanding of the broader business strategy and the role of Product Technology.
- Industry stakeholders’ awareness – e.g. Test houses, industry federations and organisation.
- Good understanding of the product development process within a commercial environment.
- Commercial understanding of the specific market and experience of working with a global supply chain.
- Effective negotiating/influencing skills – sufficient to influence internally and externally to meet business objectives.
- Knowledge of the manufacturing market and supply options within it.
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems.
- Manages supply base relationship.
- Takes lead in risk assessing individual products and using best practice expertise to meet and surpass customers’ expectations.
- Adaptability to learn other systems/developments.
- Seeing and seeking opportunities, identifying and addressing problems.
- Time and risk management.
- Comprehensive technical and engineering knowledge of specific product area.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Customer knowledge of standards/manual requirements to drive product excellence.
- Benchmark products against competitors, assessing quality reviews online and gaining returns data from our customers. Use findings to develop existing and new products.

- Previous experience in Babywear or Childrenswear is preferred.
- Pro-active and self-starting.
- Originates / takes action so as organisational goals can be met.

- Committed to the achievement and maintenance of quality.
