The Role
The Gas and Electrical Training Centre Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the centre operates effectively, compliantly and commercially.

The role will suit an experienced centre manager, curriculum manager, training manager, lead IQA or senior technical trainer who is ready to take ownership of a growing independent training centre.
You do not need to personally teach every subject delivered by the centre. However, you must have sufficient technical, quality and operational knowledge to manage tutors, assessors and IQAs effectively, challenge poor performance and ensure that provision meets the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
Centre Leadership and Operational Management
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the effective operation of the training centre.
- Provide clear leadership, direction and accountability to tutors, assessors, IQAs and support staff.
- Ensure that all training, assessment and quality-assurance activity is properly planned, resourced and delivered.
- Create and maintain effective staff rotas, course timetables, assessment plans and room allocations.
- Ensure that the centre has the appropriate staffing, equipment, materials and facilities to deliver each programme successfully.
- Identify operational issues quickly and implement practical solutions.
- Support the Managing Director by taking ownership of routine operational decisions and staff management.
- Establish clear expectations across the team and ensure agreed actions are completed.
- Create a professional, accountable and supportive working culture.
Curriculum and Programme Management
- Oversee gas, electrical and renewable-energy training programmes.
- Ensure that courses are delivered in line with qualification specifications, awarding-body requirements and industry standards.
- Review the structure, duration and content of existing programmes.
- Support the development and introduction of new qualifications and commercial courses.
- Ensure that schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment materials and learner resources are current and suitable.
- Monitor course performance, learner progress, attendance, achievement and satisfaction.
- Ensure learners receive appropriate support and that concerns are acted upon promptly.
- Work with the sales and administration teams to ensure learners are enrolled onto the correct programmes.
- Ensure that course information provided to learners is accurate and consistent.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all relevant awarding organisations, certification bodies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee internal quality assurance across gas and electrical provision.
- Ensure that assessment decisions are valid, reliable, fair and appropriately documented.
- Develop and maintain effective sampling plans.
- Ensure that assessor and IQA records are accurate, complete and up to date.
- Prepare for and lead awarding-organisation visits, EQA activity, audits and centre reviews.
- Ensure that actions arising from audits or external visits are completed within the agreed timescales.
- Maintain current policies, procedures, risk assessments and centre documentation.
- Monitor staff qualifications, occupational competence, CPD and standardisation activity.
- Lead regular assessor and IQA standardisation meetings.
- Identify quality risks before they affect learner outcomes or centre approval.
- Support the completion and ongoing development of the Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Work closely with the Quality and Compliance Manager to maintain high standards across the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
