Who You Are / Your Next Challenge
As part of our continued investment in data, analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities, Petroineos Trading Limited (PITL) is expanding its European Gas and LNG analytics function. We are seeking a curious, commercially aware and technically capable Gas and LNG Data Analyst to join our growing AI Foundry (AIF) team on a full-time / 12 months fixed-term contract basis.
This role is ideal for an individual with prior experience in data analytics, data engineering or quantitative analysis who enjoys transforming complex datasets into meaningful market intelligence. Whether your experience has been gained within energy, commodities, financial services, technology or another data-driven environment, this position offers an exciting opportunity to apply modern data and AI technologies to support front-office trading activities.
Based in our London office and reporting to the Head of Data Analysis, you will work closely with Data Scientists, Traders and Commercial teams to develop the data and analytical models that underpin our understanding of the European Gas and LNG markets. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of data sources, including supply and demand fundamentals, storage inventories, pipeline flows, LNG vessel movements and market intelligence datasets.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, by utilising scalable data solutions and technology to build data driven decision-making analytics. You will be responsible for transforming raw and often unstructured information into robust, automated data products that support trading strategies, market analysis and forecasting activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain automated data collection processes using APIs, web-scraping tools and external market data sources.
- Source, validate and monitor datasets to ensure high levels of accuracy, quality and reliability.
- Clean, transform and model data using Python, Pandas and SQL.
- Support European Gas and LNG analysis through datasets covering flows, storage, supply and demand fundamentals, and cargo tracking.
- Analyse data to identify trends, anomalies and market insights that support business decision-making.
- Build dashboards, visualisations and analytical tools for traders and analysts.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to develop and enhance analytical, AI and machine learning solutions.
- Utilise modern AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency, automation and delivery.
- Maintain high standards of data governance, security and documentation.
- Take ownership of projects from requirements gathering through to deployment and ongoing support.
What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role
Required
- Previous experience within data analytics, data engineering or a related analytical role.
- Strong Python programming skills, including working knowledge of Pandas is essential.
- Experience using SQL to transform, analyse and manage datasets is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with APIs, web-scraping or automated data collection techniques.
- Experience building dashboards, visualisations or analytical tools for end users.
- Good understanding of version control tools such as Git.
- Experience working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Interest in energy markets, commodities, Gas or LNG is advantageous.

Skills That Will Further Support Your Success
- Experience developing analytical or forecasting models.
- Exposure to AI, machine learning or AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience working with market data providers, vendor APIs or cloud-based data platforms.
- Knowledge preferably of Gas, and/or LNG, Power although other commodity markets will be considered.
Please note: This is a full-time, 12 months fixed-term contract position with the job based in Charing Cross, London. The role is available to be worked in a hybrid capacity of 4 days in the office / 1 day from home.
