About the Role

Gas Safe Register is recruiting for a safety-focused, gas-qualified individual to join their field services team in the CO postcode area (Essex/Suffolk) as a Gas Inspector. This role involves inspecting, reporting, and enforcing gas safety standards across registered businesses in the region.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of gas installation businesses, ensuring compliance with:
    • HSE risk models
    • Gas Industry Statutory and Normative Documents
    • Internal operating procedures
  • Complete inspection reports against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintain required standards.
  • Identify and escalate unsafe or illegal gas work to the appropriate authorities.
  • Work with registered businesses to address faults and ensure timely resolution while meeting regulatory deadlines.
  • Liaise with gas installers, business owners, and consumers to clarify findings and ensure understanding.
  • Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to stay up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments of working environments and ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and relevant normative documents.

Requirements

Essential:

✔ Must hold minimum ACS (Competences and Certificates Scheme) certification, including:

  • CCN1 (Domestic gas installation and use of appliances)
  • CENWAT1 (Domestic gas installation and use of appliances in unprecedented locations)
  • CKR1 (Domestic gas installation and use of equipment to flush central heating systems)
  • HTR1 (Combustion safety and efficiency)

✔ Experience working on:

  • Diverse gas appliances
  • Quality control of gas installations

✔ Demonstrated understanding of:

  • Health & Safety, Building Regulations
  • Industry codes and normative documents (e.g., PAS 2030)
  • Risk assessment methodologies

✔ Formal qualification or equivalent experience in auditing or compliance role (e.g., D32/A1 certification).

Desirable:

  • Additional ACS qualifications (e.g., LPG, Non-Domestic & Catering, CHW3, DAH1, LAU1) for expanded appliance scope.
  • Relevant compliance or regulatory experience in engineering or safety domains.
  • Genuine passion for gas safety and aversion to unlawful or negligent practices.
