What Our Organisation Does
Gas Safe Register ensures gas safety by monitoring and upholding standards across registered businesses in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey. Operated and provided by Capita Business Services Ltd (CBSL), registered safety checks are conducted to reduce gas-related hazards to consumers nation-wide.
About the Role
We’re seeking a hardworking, meticulous, and highly safety-focused practitioner with gas qualifications to join our field services team. In this Gas Inspector role, you will:
- Conduct thorough inspections, verifying compliance with Gas Industry Statutory and Normative Documents
- Complete audits in line with contractual obligations to the HSE (Health & Safety Executive)
- Assess registered businesses against internal procedures, reporting findings
- Identify defects to determine if non-compliance is unsafe or illegal, ensuring compliance is restored in a timely manner
- Liaise with businesses and gas consumers to inform changes and maintain transparency
You’ll manage a portfolio of registered businesses through structured scheduling, working Within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to meet deadlines.

✅ Conduct inspections based on risk modelling and statutory obligations ✅ Perform technical assessments against official guidelines and Capita’s internal standards ✅ Notify businesses and customers about defects or necessary remedies within agreed timescales ✅ Disseminate feedback and findings to improve industry compliance and enhance public safety ✅ Advocate for gas safety measures, ensuring standards adhere to building codes, health & safety regulations, and operational norms

Legal & Technical Compliance
✅ Recognise and prevent non-compliant or hazardous practices during installation, inspection or use. ✅ Enforce compliance by reporting violations to relevant authorities (e.g., Gas Safe Register/H&S authority) ✅ Work closely with registered businesses as their accountable fraud liaison partner
Relationship Management
✅ Keep clear communication channels open with stakeholders, including businesses and consumers. ✅ Build relationships with traders to support continuous improvement. ✅ Contribute to constructive discussions regarding technical issues and gas safety initiatives
Key Requirements & Qualifications
For this role, you must meet the following essential criteria:
Minimum Requirements
✔ Valid ACS Certificates of Competence including:
- CCN1 (Core Domestic Gas Installation)
- CENWAT1 (Gas Safety Assessment in Dwellings)
- CKR1 (Domestic Flavoured Appliances)
- HTR1 (Domestic Heating Appliances) ✔ Experience evidenced by having:
- Managed technical operations in gas or H&V (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) installation artery
- Validated work to building regulations or technical standards
- Supervised compliance of operations within a similar role
Essential Technical Competencies
✔ Deep understanding of building regulations and Health & Safety standards ✔ Ability to perform risk assessments in different environments ✔ Effective use of inspection tools, compatible with Gas Safe Register requirements ✔ Knowledge of flow diagnostics such as :
- Pressure measurements
- Gas safety scrutiny methods
- Pipe sizing relevance
Recommended
✔ Additional ACS qualifications beneficial:
- LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)
- Non-Domestic & Catering gas (BTW1)
- Domestic Utilities Gas (DAH1)
- Any additional training in Appliance Servicing (AS1) & Welding Heat Recovery ✔ RQF Level 3 or higher technical qualification in Gas or HVAC, especially as an auditor (ref. D32 or A1 UKRR Validation documents)
