About the Role & Eligibility
Applications sought for the 2027 clinical year, commencing February 2027 in a one-year position (potential extension after). Eligible applicants must be PGY4+ by February 2027.

Canberra Health Services (CHS) delivers high-quality, person-centred care, including:

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit provides specialised services:
- Inpatient consultations for digestive/liver/biliary diseases
- Endoscopy procedures (ERCP, EUS) and multi-specialty clinics for:
- Liver and inflammatory bowel disease
- Inherited gastrointestinal cancers
- Complex gastro-pancreatic disorders
- National Bowel Cancer Screening Program support
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Direct inpatient/outpatient management, endoscopy service engagement, and acute patient leadership.
- System Leadership: Core role in on-call roster coordination, staff progression/mentorship, and quality assurance meetings.
- Research & Education:
- Develop a research plan that aligns with Unit priorities (e.g., fatty liver, lymphoma, or IBD) and publish a peer-reviewed paper within the year.
- Consultation multidisciplinary care with teams.
Note: This is a postgraduate training position accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

About the Position
Scope
As an Advanced Trainee, your appointment carries high responsibility. Responsibilities include:
- Representing gastroenterology at the departmental level in collaboration with consultant peers.
- Leading junior staff and acting as a mentor.
- Ensuring professionalism through prioritised patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical care.
- Simultaneously managing inpatients and outpatients with efficient delegation.
Requirements
Prior to appointment:
- Complete a National Police Check.
- Comply with CHS vaccination and occupational screening policies.
