Job Title: GCP Security Architect
Location: Sheffield/Birmingham (hybrid)
Contract: 6 months initial
Overview
A leading global financial services organisation is seeking a Lead Platform Cloud Security Architect (GCP) to play a pivotal role in shaping and securing the next generation of cloud infrastructure. This is an opportunity to influence enterprise-wide cloud adoption, define security architecture standards, and help deliver a secure, scalable Google Cloud Platform (GCP) foundation for a complex global environment. You will be responsible for designing and enabling secure cloud adoption across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver security architecture, controls, and frameworks to enable secure cloud adoption.
- Define and document cloud security standards, baselines, and reusable patterns for GCP services.
- Partner with engineering and development teams to ensure applications are securely designed, built, and deployed.
- Conduct cloud security assessments, threat modelling exercises, and risk reviews across cloud platforms and services.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity governance teams to streamline security processes and controls.
- Assess the security posture of proposed solutions and provide recommendations for remediation and improvement.
- Develop hardened configuration standards and security guardrails for cloud services.
- Evaluate cloud-native services and define appropriate security controls to mitigate identified risks.
- Support high-level and detailed solution architecture design activities.
- Drive alignment between strategic cloud tooling and enterprise security requirements.

Required Experience
- Strong experience securing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
- Deep understanding of cloud security architecture, controls, risks, threats, and attack vectors.
- Experience producing cloud security standards, baselines, and governance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Identity & Access Management (IAM) and Privileged Access Management (PAM).
- Hands-on experience with threat modelling and security risk assessments.
- Knowledge of vulnerability management and remediation practices.
- Cloud Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tooling.
- Understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, container security, and orchestration technologies.
- Experience across networking, storage, compute, APIs, and distributed cloud environments.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, application security, and data security principles.
- Strong solution architecture capability.
- Experience within large-scale enterprise environments, ideally within highly regulated industries.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity governance, risk management, and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of financial services regulatory and security frameworks would be highly beneficial.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
