General Catering Assistant – Campuses
Location: Somerset Larder (Somerset), working at Sedgemoor Campus
About the Role
Opportunity for a General Catering Assistant working with Somerset Larder on the Hinkley Point C Project.
This role will provide a welcoming and friendly customer experience, ensuring excellent food service while maintaining a clean, hygienic restaurant and advising customers on products (e.g., meals, snacks, allergen information).
The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across the project.
Key Responsibilities
Front of House & Customer Service
- Greet customers and provide food/drink service while resolving product-related queries, including allergens/dietary needs.
- Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with our "Pride: We Can and We Will" philosophy.
- Handle payments (cash/card) at tills, including resolving/reclarifying purchases and special offers.
- Address initial customer queries or escalate to supervisors for complex issues.
Back of House & Operations
- Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving across multiple areas:
- Serveries
- Deli/Retail
- Hospitality orders
- Functions/Events
- Coffee Shops
- Bars
- Maintain food safety standards and comply with the Food Safety & Quality Management System.
- Perform food safety stock checks as directed by managers/supervisors.
- Manage inventory:
- Receive deliveries, check supplier invoices against company procedures.
- Account for stocked items and ensure correct disposal.
- Use a Banksman (when required) for operational tasks.
- Ensure proper food handling, traceability, and adherence to general regulatory requirements (HACCP participation may be required).
- Maintain hygiene—clean equipment, cutlery, and premises as needed.

Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health & safety (H&S) legislation and the company’s Zero Harm culture.
- Complete production/quality records accurately and on time.
- Participate in ongoing training (including occasional off-site or overnight travel).
- Engage in zero harm initiatives and follow supervisor/manager directives.
Qualifications & Desirables
- Full UK driving licence with:
- At least 12 months’ driving experience.
- No more than 6 penalty points (desirable).
- Level 2 Food Safety Qualification (desirable).
- Level 2 Health & Safety Qualification (desirable).
- First Aid Certificate (desirable).

Pre-Employment Screening
Successful applicants must provide:
- Three-year employment history.
- Five-year address history (required for nuclear site clearance).
- In-date photographic ID.
- Proof of right to work in the UK.
Note: Due to the nuclear-regulated site, security clearance is mandatory.
