General Commercial Solicitor – Screwfix

## About the Role

Join Screwfix as a General Commercial Solicitor and play an integral role within our high-performing Commercial Legal Team. You’ll deliver sharp, commercially focused legal advice that keeps the business moving fast but responsibly.

You’ll be a key partner to the business, leading on major commercial contracts, managing legal and regulatory risk, and working closely with senior leaders, procurement, operations, and cross-functional teams to drive confident, commercially smart decisions.

Your expertise will protect the brand, unlock new opportunities, and power the growth of a business built on trust, simplicity, and exceptional customer focus.

This role is for a solicitor who thrives on pace and impact—someone who brings legal excellence while balancing risk and reward to enable optimal commercial decision-making across the organisation.

## Key Responsibilities

🔹 Commercial Contracts

● Manage legal risk in commercial relationships with:

  • Suppliers for goods and services (non-stock) and goods for resale (stock suppliers) (including significant tenders, contracts, and related disputes) ● Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts, including:
  • Intragroup, logistics warehousing & fulfilment
  • Supply of goods & services
  • Technology & software agreements
  • Non-disclosure agreements ● Support contract lifecycle management (renewals, updates, dispute avoidance) ● Advise on contract structure & risks to align with commercial strategy ● Develop and enforce compliance with templates, standard terms, and playbooks

🔹 Legal Advisory & Risk Management

● Provide expert legal support for strategic business projects and ad hoc queries across commercial law ● Collaborate with Kingfisher Group colleagues & external counsel in a cost-efficient way ● Ensure risks are escalated and managed for optimal commercial decision-making

🔹 Governance, Compliance & Regulatory Support

● Ensure data protection compliance in contractual relationships ● Provide legal advice on data protection issues ● Advise where applicable on:

  • Regulatory law (including competition & consumer issues)
  • Brand protection (intellectual property)
🔹 Additional Tasks

● Identify efficiencies and seek process improvements ● Support dispute management (pre-litigation) ● Train Screwfix teams on:

  • Contract risks
  • Legal compliance
  • Processes to ensure optimal visibility of critical legal issues

## Required Skills & Experience

● UK-qualified solicitor with 4+ PQE experience

  • Proven track record in private practice &/or in-house commercial law
  • Experience impacting a FMCG business ● Expertise in contract law with:
  • Superlative drafting & negotiation skills
  • Experience with complex commercial contracts (varied sectors) ● Strong knowledge of data protection law + understanding of information governance ● Desirable: In-depth experience in competition & regulatory law ● Exceptional written & oral communication skills ● Ability to balance legal risk and business priorities ● Strong influencing skills – translate complex legal concepts into plain English for all stakeholders ● Experience in contentious (pre-litigation) & non-contentious negotiations ● Accuracy, timeliness and a focus on high standards
