General Maintenance Operative

Location: Newport Employment Type: Permanent Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am – 4:30pm Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum

Hawk 3 Talent Solutions are seeking a hands-on, reliable General Maintenance Operative to join their client’s growing facilities team, supporting a range of commercial sites across the UK.

This is a varied and practical role, where no two days are the same, spanning planned upkeep to reactive repairs for self-storage facilities, office spaces, and retail locations.


The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • General building maintenance and repairs (including roofing and cladding)
  • Plumbing repairs and basic installations
  • Joinery and carpentry work
  • Painting and decorating tasks
  • Tiling and flooring repairs (including carpets)
  • External works such as paving and drainage maintenance
  • Grounds upkeep and general site clearance
  • Pressure washing external areas
  • Furniture assembly, relocation, and removal
  • Supporting both planned preventative maintenance and reactive works

About You

Ideal candidates should have:

  • At least 3 years of experience in building maintenance or a similar multi-skilled trade role
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent qualification)
  • Experience with roofing and cladding (desirable)
  • A CSCS card (advantageous but not essential)
  • A full UK driving licence
  • The ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in using IT systems for logging work completed and associated costs
  • A good understanding of health and safety practices, including risk assessment awareness
