General Manager

General Manager for Complex Abdomino Pelvic Specialties

The surgery division are looking for a talented and ambitious individual to join us in the role of General Manager for Complex Abdomino Pelvic Specialties for the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals.

The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management and operational delivery of high quality, patient focused services, whilst driving forward an exciting service improvement agenda.

The General Manager is a key position within the division’s leadership team, being responsible for the operational and performance management of adult ENT and adult audiology services delivered at the Royal London Hospital site and outreach centres.

The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of the NHS constitutional standards, the cancer and elective recovery programme and take the lead on service improvements to benefit our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general manager oversight and accountability for the specialties which form the site’s Complex Abdomino Pelvic Unit; vascular, general surgery, HPB, colorectal, gynaeoncology and urology services.
  • This includes responsibility for all RTT, DM01 and cancer targets associated with these specialties, alongside appropriate budget and people management.
  • Ensuring the Trust meets the ambition of reaching RTT constitutional standards by March 2027, in line with national targets. This will include leading on strategic planning to ensuring waiting lists are cleared sustainably and that any insourcing initiatives are robustly managed.
  • Leading for the RLH on improvement plans associated with areas of responsibility, including internal reviews, GIRFT and peer review recommendations, which may call for significant redesign of processes.
  • Working closely with our Barts Health sister sites and wider-NELsystem partners in the effective and efficient management of waiting lists and on initiatives to redesign care pathways and flow as needed.
  • The post holder will ensure capacity and demand remains under constant review, that reports into tier 1 meetings are accurate and that our waiting list reduction plans remain both ambitious and achievable.
  • Supporting the wider clinical and operational team in the safe and efficient management of the vascular, general surgery, HPB, colorectal, gynaeoncology and urology services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
