About us
Founded 1902 – Chorlton-cum-Hardy Golf Club is an oasis in the heart of the city, its tranquil surroundings make it hard to believe the course is just four miles away from the centre of Manchester. Situated just off junction 5 of the M60, the club is easily accessible for everyone. Chorlton-cum-Hardy has a rich history and is a true test of golf for all abilities. Members and Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy our warm hospitality, fully stocked pro shop and indoor academy, stunning greens and amazing views during and after the round on the clubhouse balcony.
Summary of Position
CCHGC is a mature parkland golf course set within the Mersey Valley Green Belt. The Club is forward-thinking and has undergone a significant period of growth in recent years. We are now seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to help lead the Club through its next phase of development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assuming responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Club, enabling the Board of Directors to focus on strategic governance. Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors, the General Manager will be responsible for the efficient operation of the Club, the delivery of an outstanding member and visitor experience, and the successful implementation of the Club’s strategic objectives.
This is a full-time, on-site leadership role requiring a highly motivated, professional and visible individual. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the Club’s future by driving operational excellence, modernisation, member engagement, facility development and long-term financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience and capability across the following areas.
Leadership & Operational Management
- Provide strong leadership, clear direction and effective line management across all operational departments, including Food & Beverage, clubhouse operations and administration.
- Ensure the Club consistently delivers a high-quality experience for members and visitors, operating efficiently, safely and profitably.
- Recruit, lead, develop and motivate staff, fostering a positive culture that reflects the Club’s values and ethos.
- Manage the Club Professional’s franchise agreement and maintain strong working relationships with contractors, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
- Work with the Head Greenkeeper to ensure the course and practice facilities are consistently maintained to a high standard.
- Oversee the presentation, maintenance and continual improvement of the clubhouse, facilities and surrounding grounds.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice relating to health and safety, employment law, governance, licensing and GDPR.
- Manage all HR policies, procedures and employee matters in partnership with the Club’s appointed HR consultants.
- Promote and uphold the Club’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across both membership and employment practices.

Financial & Commercial Management
- Prepare, manage and monitor the Club’s annual operating and capital budgets in line with agreed strategic priorities.
- Take responsibility for the Club’s financial performance, including forecasting, management accounts, cash flow and cost control, reporting regularly to the Board of Directors.
- Identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve profitability and develop new commercial income streams to enable further investment in the course, facilities and people.
Strategic Leadership & Development
- Support the Board of Directors in the development, refinement and delivery of the Club’s Strategic Plan.
- Lead and oversee modernisation projects, including facility improvements, sustainability initiatives, digital transformation and enhancements to member services.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and operational excellence throughout the Club.
Member Experience & Engagement
- Maintain a visible, approachable and professional presence throughout the Club, building positive relationships with members, visitors and staff.
- Ensure consistently high standards of customer service across all aspects of the Club’s operations.
- Monitor and respond constructively to member feedback to improve satisfaction, engagement and retention.
- Support initiatives to recruit, engage and retain members across all membership categories.

Marketing, Membership & Community
- Oversee the Club’s marketing, communications and digital presence to promote the Club effectively and strengthen its reputation.
- Ensure the Club remains relevant, attractive and competitive within an evolving golf market.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the local community, partner organisations and external stakeholders where appropriate.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- A proven track record as a General/Club Manager or in a senior leadership position within a comparable organisation, with responsibility for operations, staffing and financial management.
- A professional and approachable member focused individual with a passion for delivering first class service standards.
- Proven experience of budget preparation, financial reporting, management accounts and cash flow management.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and inspire teams.
- Excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal and IT skills.
- An understanding of HR management, UK employment law, health and safety legislation, governance and licensing requirements.
- The ability to think strategically while maintaining a hands-on approach to the day-to-day operation of a successful members’ club.
- A willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and bank holidays to support club events and peak operational times.
