General Manager - Live In (Up to £50K)
We're seeking a General Manager for Chequers, a charming village pub in picturesque Walton on the Hill.
About The Pub
The pub blends traditional charm with modern sophistication. Its layout features:
- Cozy bar areas with nooks, crannies, and communal spaces—all linked to the fully integrated bar
- A bright, airy dining room
- A pub garden complete with bookable huts
- A dedicated car park (ideal for visitors)
- A pizza shack for al fresco dining with shared plates
The menu focuses on elevated, seasonal pub food, using only the freshest ingredients—seasonally rotated to keep guests engaged.
The Role
As a General Manager, you’ll run this community-focused village pub, blending hospitality excellence with business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of dedicated staff, maintaining high standards in customer service
- Shape the pub’s food, beverages, and events to reflect local tastes
- Foster a strong community presence, reinforcing the pub’s role as a village hub
- Drive sales and revenue growth through creative initiatives—events, promotions, and tailored menus
- Recruit, train, and develop a staff team aligned with your vision
- Uphold Young’s reputation for innovation and quality while operating within brand guidelines

As a General Manager, you’ll have full autonomy over: 🍽 Food – Customise the menu to suit your location and patrons 📢 Events & Promotions – Plan special occasions (weddings, birthdays, markets) 🐞 Teams – Recruit and style your own staff 🔄 Marketing – Build and own your marketing strategy ✨ Vibe – Define the pub’s personality to cater to the local community
Qualifications & Experience
We’re looking for a people-focused, entrepreneurial leader with experience in:
- Managing a premium, food-led pub (preferably a village presence)
- Demonstrating a track record of sales growth through community engagement
- Delivering exceptional customer service with a proactive and creative approach
- Operating in hospitality with a preference for fresh, seasonal dining
