General Manager – Small Works

Home-Based | Nationwide Travel (Typically 1–2 Days Per Week)

£70,000 Basic + £6,000+ Car Allowance or Company Vehicle + 10% Bonus (Up to 20%) + Excellent Benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the UK's leading construction businesses as General Manager for its growing Small Works division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operational and commercial management of the Small Works division.
  • Drive profitability, revenue growth and commercial performance.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Project Managers.
  • Oversee forecasting, CVRs, cash flow, cost control and financial reporting.
  • Manage NEC/JCT contracts, commercial risk and project governance.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
  • Support business growth by identifying opportunities and improving operational performance.

We're Looking For Someone With

  • Significant leadership experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with P&L responsibility.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects.
  • Excellent understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts.
  • Strong people management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A structured, commercially driven approach with the ambition to help grow a successful business.

Desirable

  • Degree in Construction, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CIOB or RICS membership (or working towards).
